Considering buying a Microtech but are looking to learn more before making the purchase? We’re here to help. Here’s our guide to Microtech Knives, including how they started, how they make their knives, and some popular models you should consider adding to your collection.

The Beginnings of Microtech Knives

To know about the company, you need to know its background. And to know the background, you need to start at the beginning. It started when Anthony Marfione and Susan Marfione began making knife prototypes in their apartment. Their goal was simple: create the best knives possible. Nearly 30 years later, through hard work and dedication, they have grown and become the knife company you look up when you want a high-quality, incredible knife.

Now, they have two facilities, one in Bradford, Pennsylvania, and the other near Asheville, North Carolina. Through their growth, they still continue to strive to make the highest quality product possible.

Their Creation Process

Great knives aren’t made by accident. Microtech’s process is well thought out and thorough to ensure each product is high-quality.

It starts with several initial mockups before they get approved and move on to rendering. Their engineering department then takes great care to create precise 3D models. Of course, materials need to be chosen before building the knife, and you can be certain that they only use top-shelf materials. They use nothing but the highest-rated premium metals, carbon fiber, aluminum, plastics, and other project-specific materials. Once the materials have been selected, the creation process can begin. After machining and multiple secondary operations, each knife is built by hand to ensure that when it leaves the facility, it is of the very best quality.

And, we should take the time to mention here that Microtech Knives extends a limited lifetime warranty on their products. They build knives that are made to be used and shouldn’t fail. They will cover defects in materials and workmanship, ensuring that the knife functions for the span of its lifetime. Please note, they will not cover normal signs of wear and tear, accidents, loss, or theft.

Are Microtech Knives Good?

The question you likely ask yourself before buying a knife is: is it good? So, you may be wondering, are Microtech Knives good? They are popular, but popular doesn’t always mean it’s good.

Except for Microtech. Because yes, they are good. Actually they’re excellent. They use premium materials for their blades and handles. They create unique designs that are tough, good-looking, and good-feeling. And their quality control ensures flawless knives find their way into the hands of customers. When you buy a Microtech, you’ll immediately understand the hype around these knives.

Popular Knife Models

Considering getting a Microtech but not sure which one to buy? Here are the popular choices to consider adding to your collection.

Ultratech

The Microtech Ultratech came out in 1999, and essentially, the rest is history. This knife became and continues to be the most popular model, and it’s not for nothing. It’s the standard OTF (out the front) knife that all others are measured against. With its double-action abilities, you can open and close the knife with a push on the thumb slide. The contoured chassis handle provides a light and ergonomic feel and only makes this knife even better to hold and use. If you’re looking for a new everyday carry or just want to expand your collection with your first Microtech Knife, this is one you’ll be very happy you chose.

Combat Troodon

Originally, this knife was built for law enforcement and military personnel who needed a substantial, dependable knife that deployed rapidly when their life depended on it. Now you can own the same highly popular version. Its size lends itself to tougher situations while remaining slim enough to keep on your person. Not to mention, the ergonomic grip makes it suitable for hard use, while the double-action automatic OTF mechanism makes it a great choice for everyday carry.

Makora

If you like the Ultratech but are looking for a knife with a little more pizzazz, the Makora is for you. This knife is slightly thicker, slightly lighter, and has a peaked handle and an updated glass breaker. Both sides of the handle are inset with composite grip-enhancing material, making it comfortable and feel reliable in hand. The action is also enhanced by nickel boron internals for reduced friction and improved consistency. This is an excellent knife and a winning choice to add to any sized collection.
